How to get more reviews on Amazon without breaking the rules?

If you have just launched a new product or are a new seller, it can be frustrating when reviews are slow to come in or when the first review you receive is negative. After all, reviews play an important role in customers' purchasing decisions, and the more positive reviews a product has, the better this is for conversion.

We are often asked: how can I get more reviews on Amazon? And how can I do this without breaking the rules? In this short blog, we highlight two options that can really make a difference for you as a seller.

Amazon Vine program

If you sell on Amazon and are registered as a brand owner through Amazon Brand Registry, you can participate in the Amazon Vine program to get more reviews for your products. As a Seller, you can easily enroll your products through Amazon Seller Central. You have the opportunity to participate twice for free, which can be especially useful for new sellers. For Vendors, participation is arranged through contracts. The program works as follows:

  • Consumers who regularly write detailed and high-quality reviews may be invited by Amazon to participate in Amazon Vine.
  • These consumers receive the products free of charge.
  • In return, they leave honest reviews on the product page, sharing their positive, negative or neutral opinion.

It is therefore important that your products meet consumers’ expectations to help prevent negative reviews through Amazon Vine. After all, the reviews are honest, which means there is always a risk of receiving a negative review if the product does not meet expectations. These consumers also tend to be particularly critical because they have already tested many products. We therefore recommend making sure everything is fully optimized before participating in Amazon Vine. This includes your product page and packaging, as well as the shipping process if you fulfil orders yourself. This way, you can at least minimize the risk of receiving a negative review.

Add a personal card to the order

An option that works across all marketplaces, including Amazon, Bol, Kaufland and La Redoute, is to include a personal card with the order. On this card, you can thank the customer for their purchase and ask them to leave a review if they are satisfied. One tip from us is to also give customers the option to contact you if they have any questions. This gives you the opportunity to turn a negative experience into a positive one. Experiment with different formats and also test whether adding a QR code that links directly to the review page has a positive effect.

Bonus tip from our experts

If you are a Vendor and want to avoid the high costs of Vine, there is also the option to use a Seller account instead. A hybrid Vendor and Seller account strategy can in any case add value to your success on the platform.
