What does the General Product Safety Regulation entail?

The General Product Safety Regulation, or GPSR for short, replaces the current “General Product Safety Directive” and the “EU directive on dangerous products resembling foodstuffs.” These existing regulations aim to ensure that only safe products are made available to consumers and to prevent misleading products.

The new GPSR will come into effect on December 13, 2024, and will act as an extension of the current “Market Surveillance Regulation.” This regulation requires that CE-marked products have a person or company based in the European Union responsible for ensuring compliance with product standards.

GPSR on Amazon

The GPSR legislation affects most non-food consumer products sold within the EU. Starting from December 13, 2024, product pages for these items must include warning and safety information to comply with the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). Failure to do so may result in your product detail page (PDP) being taken offline.

We divide compliance into two parts: compliance at the brand level and compliance at the product level. Below, we explain what this entails:

Compliance at the Brand Level

At the brand level, you must provide data for all products associated with the brand you are registered with in the Amazon Brand Registry. This includes providing information about the responsible person and the manufacturer for each brand. These details must be entered into the Amazon Brand Registry and comply with the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR). Ensure that all information is accurate to avoid product pages being taken offline.

GPSR: Responsible Person Contact Details

”Add the name and contact details of the responsible person for brands you are associated with in the Amazon Brand Registry in one of the official languages of the EU.”

GPSR: Manufacturer Contact Details

”Add the name and contact details of the manufacturer for brands you are associated with in the Amazon Brand Registry in one of the official languages of the EU.”

Compliance at the Product Level

In addition to brand-level compliance, each individual product must also meet the GPSR requirements. For each product, it is necessary to provide specific warnings and safety information. This ensures that the product complies with safety regulations within the EU. Below, you can find what information is required and what to do if the requirements do not apply to your product.

Compliance Media Content

For each product, a ‘warning and safety information sheet’ must be added to the product page in the form of an: installation manual, instructions for use, patient fact sheet, provider fact sheet, safety information, user guide, or user manual.

Warning & Safety Information

Upload up to six images of the product or its packaging displaying the required warning and safety information by using the product safety image variants PS01-06.

Attest to Product Safety

If the warning and safety information does not apply to your product, you can report this via the “Attest to Product Safety” tab.

How to Submit the Required Information?

Now that you have a better understanding of the new regulations, we will guide you step by step on how to navigate to the correct screen and where you can enter all the necessary information.

Step 1 – Go to the Account Health – Compliance Page

  • Open the Amazon Seller Central dashboard;
  • Navigate to the hamburger menu in the top left corner of Seller Central;
  • In the menu, go to “Performance” and select “Account Health”;
  • Scroll down and click “Manage your compliance” in the bottom right corner;
  • Select “Regulatory compliance”.

On the page that opens, all GPSR-related issues will be displayed. Review these, provide the necessary information, and click the “Submit” button. Your submission will be reviewed by Amazon within 7 working days.

Step 2 – Upload the Warning and Safety Information

Upload up to 6 images of the product or its packaging with the warning and safety information to Amazon. Ensure that the information is provided in the official language(s) of the respective country. If the country has only one official language, a document or image in that language is sufficient. If the country has multiple official languages, make sure the document or image is available in all of them. You will need to do this separately for each Amazon store. Uploads are done using “Country Specific Images”. Upload the image in JPG format with the file name consisting of the ASIN code followed by ‘.PS01’ up to ‘.PS06’.

Example: B0CYC4KZP9.PS01

  • Navigate to the hamburger menu in the top left corner of Seller Central;
  • Go to “Catalogue”;
  • Select “Upload images”;
  • Choose a “country-specific upload” — it’s important that the images are provided in the same language as the country of sale;
  • Then select the image you have saved;
  • It may take up to 48 hours for the images to appear on the product page.

Once successfully uploaded, the images or documents will be displayed under the images section of the product page.
